About Us

Here is a brief history on Max-o Meats, Atties Slaghuis & Sentrale Slaghuis

It all started in 1999

Attie's Slaghuis was Started

Well, it started in 1999 where At de Klerck started Attie’s Slaghuis in Louw Street, Bethlehem. Attie’s started as a butchery, where At thought that there is a market for good cold meats like Russians, viennas, polony and other cold meat loafs. Given this 40+ years experience in this area, he started off producing these products in the back of Attie’s Slaghuis on a small scale.

2000

Riaan de Klerck joins Attie's Slaghuis

Riaan de Klerck joined in at Atties Slaghuis in 2000, where he handled the finances of the business. The butchery moved next to the factory where it is still today.

End of 2000

Sentrale Slaghuis

By the end of 2000, the well known Sentrale Slaghuis closed down. Given that this is the butchery that At and Loek Meyer started years ago, we thought that we will buy the equipment, and start this business under the same name, Sentrale Slaghuis. Now all the manufacturing is done at Max-o Meats and is sold at Attie’s Slaghuis and Sentrale Slaghuis.

2003

Unico Factory Purchased

In 2003 United Cold Storage ( Unico ) stopped business, and we bought the old factory in Archbell Street on the auction, and some of the factory equipment. We moved all the factory equipment from Attie’s Slaghuis to the new factory. The timing was perfect, because the factory at Attie’s was too small for our production. At the new building we had office space, big enough factory and also a place to open up a butchery in front of the factory.

2004

Atties Meats to Max-o Meats

In 2004 we opened the butchery in front of the factory in Archbell street, calling it Atties Meats. Later on we changed the name to Max-o Meats as it is known today, and designed a logo that we use today.
